A full-width hybrid mains conditioner that delivers a combination of very high quality balanced and non-balanced power in a moderately sized component.
The key principle of the design is based on the problem that balanced mains conditioning is susceptible to distortion and self-generated microphonic noise when running at high power. And like all other Quiescent components, great attention has been spent on reducing such effects. This has been achieved in the following ways:
- With a robust power supply employing a custom-wound 500VA transformer fully coupled to vibration absorption technology. This gives the required headroom to maintain a very low noise supply for source components.
- Provision of non-balanced high power outputs for power amplifiers.
- Full decoupling between non-balanced and balanced sections.
- Separate and independent isolation for all outputs on the rear panel.
In addition to the vibration control, extensive EMI and RFI absorption techniques are used to ensure that each component connected to the conditioner is protected from shared noise and cross-pollution.
Casework is precision machined from 12mm thick aluminium (25mm for the front panel) and employs Quiescent proprietary techniques for managing vibration and RF currents.
The effect of all this attention to detail is a significantly reduced noise floor for the system components to operate in, both with respect to the power itself and the reduction of shared noise/cross-coupling between components. The result is a dramatic increase in accuracy, speed, openness and musicality.
